Domestic Ocean Freight in Vietnam

Domestic ocean freight in Vietnam, including FCL services, pickup and delivery options, shipping routes, and quotations from Nguyen Logistics.

Domestic ocean freight is a core strength at Nguyen Logistics. Our experience and relationships with major Vietnamese shipping lines help us provide efficient, affordable services. We continue to expand connections to ports including Hai Phong, Saigon, Da Nang, Cua Lo, Quy Nhon, and Van Phong to meet growing demand.

I. Vietnam's domestic ocean freight market

Domestic ocean freight continues to develop alongside the wider logistics industry, meeting demand for large-volume cargo movements. It connects Vietnam's major economic regions, moving goods from production areas to the markets where they are needed.

1. Vietnam's coastline and major domestic ports

Vietnam's long coastline creates substantial opportunities for maritime logistics. Ports serve as gateways connecting these services. The network described here includes more than 40 ports, with 10 playing particularly important roles in coastal trade and regional economic development. Examples include:

Hai Phong Port: A modern port and a major cargo gateway for northern Vietnam. The reports cited for this overview indicate handling capacity exceeding 10 million metric tons annually.

Da Nang Port: An important driver of central Vietnam's economy and the region's largest seaport in the overview presented here.

Saigon Port, Ho Chi Minh City: A key gateway supporting southern Vietnam, including the Southeast and the Mekong Delta.

Other ports supporting regional trade include Quy Nhon, Vung Tau, and Cua Lo in Nghe An.

2. What is domestic ocean freight?

Domestic ocean freight moves goods by sea between locations within the same country. Vietnam's gateway ports provide the foundation for these services. Compared with road or air transport, domestic ocean shipping offers several advantages:

- High carrying capacity and cost savings of up to 40% compared with road transport.

- Reduced exposure to accidents and cargo loss.

- Access to an established port network, including Hai Phong, Cat Lai, Da Nang, and Vung Tau.

3. Main domestic shipping routes

Vietnam's domestic ocean freight network commonly operates along the following corridors:

- North–South: The country's largest domestic sea corridor, connecting northern and southern Vietnam.

- South–Central: Routes connecting ports in southern and central Vietnam.

- North–Central: Routes connecting ports in northern and central Vietnam.

Shorter domestic routes also include Ho Chi Minh City–Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City–Vung Tau.
